Hackers help raise funds for cancer research

There will be a charity screening of two movies at the upcoming Hack in The Box Security Conference 2007 (HITBSecConf2007) in September.

This is the first time the two movies — Freedom Downtime and Urchin — are being brought to Asia-Pacific with Malaysia being the first country to screen it, said Hack in the Box (HITB), which organises the conference series.

Proceeds from the screenings will go to the Malaysian National Cancer Council.

The screenings will be held from Sept 3-4 at the KL Hilton.

The videos from the first ever deep-knowledge security conference to be held in the UAE; HITBSecCoinf2007 - Dubai is now available for download. Unlike our conferences in Malaysia where the ENTIRE conference is recorded and the videos released on Bit Torrent, for the Dubai event we only recorded the welcome address by H.E. Mr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim (Director General of the UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority - TRA) and the keynote presentations by Mikko Hypponen (Chief Research Officer, F-Secure Corp) and Lance Spitzner (Founder, Honeynet Project).

Asia's largest network security conference, HITBSecConf, hits Kuala Lumpur in September and this year promises to be its largest tech glitterati gathering to date.

The four-day "hacker-fest" will kick-off with two days of hardcore technical training sessions, followed by two days of dual-track presentations and never-before-seen attack demos.

Supported and endorsed by the UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), the conference was officially opened with a welcome address by His Excellency Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA.

The Call for Papers for the 2nd HITBSecConf to be held in the Middle East, HITBSecConf2007 - Dubai is now open.

HITBSecConf2007 - Dubai will take place at The Sheraton Creek hotel and will run from the 2nd till the 5th of April 2007. Keynote speakers for the conference will be Mikko Hypponen (Chief Research Officer, F-Secure Corporation) and Lance Spitzner (Founder, Honeynet Project). Security researchers based in an around the Middle East are encouraged to apply.
