Hack In The Box Heading to Holland

The organizers of the Hack In The Box security conferences in Malaysia are planning their first European show for Amsterdam next July. Hack In The Box (HITB) held its first security conference, or hacker convention, in Kuala Lumpur in 2003, one of the first major shows of its kind in Asia. HITB organizers added a show in the Middle East in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2007. The two shows run yearly and draw high profile security industry people every year.

HITBSecConf, Asia's premier international security conference is bringing a new and improved version of their popular team-based Capture The Flag competition to the 7th annual HITBSecConf Malaysia, from October 5 - 8 2009.

Capture The Flag (CTF) is a network security contest, the objective of which is for teams to gain as many points as possible by defending their servers and attacking and taking over other teams' servers.

HITBSecConf2009 - Malaysia Call for Papers now open

The Call for Papers (CFP) for the 7th Hack in The Box Security Conference to be held in Malaysia is now open. The event will run from the 5th till the 8th of October and CFP submissions are due BEFORE the 31st of July 2009.

As always, talks that are more technical or that discuss new and never before seen attack methods are of more interest than a subject that has been covered several times before. Summaries not exceeding 1250 words should be submitted (in plain text format) to cfp -at- hackinthebox.org for review and possible inclusion in the programme.

A bigger HITBSecConf this year

HITBSecConf — Asia’s largest network security conference — is back again and this year is expected to attract more than 1,000 attendees from around the world. Scheduled to take place in the capital from Oct 27-30, the event will offer an expanded conference programme with more than 35 speakers, including four keynote speakers.

Like Jedi and Sith, hackers use 'the force' for both good and evil. SHANNON TEOH hits the alarm button ahead of next week's gathering of the 'good' sort of hackers.

IT’S simple. Computers are supposed to make life better. And they do. Email, Internet banking and online shopping are the most straightforward examples. But even credit cards and mobile phones involve a good amount of microchips.

The problem is some people might be taking the idea of “better” a step too far. And far be it from us to make moral judgments, but some things are plain illegal.
