Web surfers brace for pop-up downloads

In recent weeks, some software makers have enlisted Web site operators to entice their visitors to download software rather than simply to view some advertising. For example, when visiting a site a person may receive a pop-up box that appears as a security warning with the message: "Do you accept this download?" If the consumer clicks "Yes," an application is automatically installed.

Growing incidents of spam attacks on some instant messaging networks are raising vexing questions about the future of one of the fastest-growing applications on the Internet.
Unsolicited commercial appeals on instant messenger are still uncommon, but they are become prevalent enough that some IM fans worry their networks are vulnerable to the seemingly unstoppable marketing deluge that has long flooded e-mail in-boxes.

Spam takes a new form

A new form of spam has been brought into light, call "Messenger Spam" (NOT to be confused with MSN messenger). The spam is ran threw MsDOS prompt. Using there commands > NET SEND . With his command all is needed is the person's IP address and your message.
EX: c:/>NET SEND XXX.XX.XX.X YOUR MESSAGE HERE.

Slashdot - To Subscribe or not?

Slashdot appears to be going to a subscription based service. They are giving 1000 page views for $5US. But what are you paying for? NO ADS.

Thats right! Slashdot is asking people to pay to read their page without ads. Apparently, instead of having just the banner ads like so many other sites on the internet do, they are going to the quarter page ads because "that is what the advertisers want".

I don't know if any of you saw this already, but here goes. Go to our old and trusty www.google.com, well, when it loads click on Language Tools, close inspection reveals some strange languages:

  • Bork, bork, bork! (a satire on sweedish-a)
  • Elmer Fudd (wew, u know that)
  • Hacker (p|-|r34k)
  • Klingon (.....)
  • Pig Latin (never got the hang of it)
  • And even though its legetimate, check out Welsh.
