Customer spamming lands Orcon in hot water – again

Auckland ISP Orcon Internet is in the firing line of anti-spammers after a bulk email with a reference to one of its customers went out to recipients worldwide.

The email was sent last Friday from an account at UK ISP BT Internet, falsely claiming to be "opt-in" -- that is, solicited by the recipient -- and asking them to go to a site on Orcon-hosted Cashevolution.com's web server.

Users of Microsoft Corp.'s Hotmail program are getting a new weapon in their fight against unsolicited commercial e-mail, commonly known as spam.

McAfee.com Corp. (NasdaqNM:MCAF - News) , a Sunnyvale, Calif., antivirus-software maker, plans to sell a version of its SpamKiller program for Hotmail users starting Wednesday. The program blocks e-mails by using preset lists and filters, which can be modified by users for better protection against spam.

Anti-spam group blocks Yahoo stores

An anti-spam group has put Yahoo's storefronts on its list of suspected junk e-mailers, snarling attempts by some customers to access the storefronts.
The Mail Abuse Prevention System (MAPS) put the IP address for Yahoo's stores in its database Tuesday. The action came in response to a notice that an alleged spam mail that has been circulating since at least February was directing recipients to a storefront on Yahoo.

Anti American server claims hacker immunity

An admin of an eastern european server in the USA which serves primarily to the 'illegals' claims no one can hack his/her server. Some anti-american contents on the pages is also evident. Care to prove them wrong? The server address is www.chicago-cz.com. Check the pages yourself, even though czech/polich translation might be required, but after reading their 'nastenka'/forum the above statements will become prudently evident...

A British man has been threatened by a gang of spammers after reporting its activity to his ISP.

The man, who asked to remain anonymous, is so concerned he fears for this own safety.

"These people are nasty," he told The Register.

"They said they were going to make my life 'not worth living'. If you complain then they retaliate in a very vicious way.
