We recently had the chance at the Hack in the Box 2011 security conference in Amsterdam to speak about PDF malware with security researcher Didier Stevens. But Mr. Steve Adegbite, a senior security strategist at Adobe Systems, was also on site to speak on a much awaited panel, so we took the opportunity to learn his opinion on the matter too.
Hack In The Box, which organises the HITBSecConf series of security conferences, announced the roll-out of HITBSecNews - the latest iteration of its HITB news portal. HITBSecNews provides a fresh layout and slew of new features. It also features full social media integration, allowing users to link their accounts to their social network of choice for easy content sharing and comments on articles and stories.
The relaunch also brings a new landing page, which links visitors to the various HITB galleries: HITBSecForums, HITBSecConf, HTIBSecPhotos, HITBSecVideos and HITB Magazine.
5 years has passed (well more like 5 and a 1/2) since our last HITB site makeover aka HITB Reloaded back in 2005 and we're well overdue for the next iteration aka HITB Revolutions!
After the success of last year’s inaugural event, Hack In The Box Security Conference is taking over the Krasnapolsky once again from the 17th till the 20th of May. This deep knowledge security conference brings a unique mix of security professionals, researchers, law enforcement and members of the hacker underground under one roof, with the focus of discussing new and groundbreaking attack and defense methods.
A very Happy New Year and a warm welcome to Issue 05 - The first HITB Magazine release for 2011!
Just over a year has passed since Issue 001 and 2010 was definitely a great year for our humble magazine with over a 100,000 downloads of the 4 issues released which included 24 unique technical articles authored or co-authored by over 30 security experts from around the world! Since April 2010, readers have also had an opportunity to get familiar with prominent figures from the IT security industry thanks to the new "Interviews" section.
After going through the logs countless number of times, we finally have the finalized write up for day 2 of CTF WMD 2.0.
The game started an hour earlier at 10.00am, compared to the previous day. Some teams looked as if they had a good night’s sleep while some looked as if they’ve just been through hell and back. Last year nukes were launched at the very start of day 2 and we had hoped that it would be the same this year, but alas, the nukes never took off.
Ahhh, it’s that time of year again where alliances are forged, enemies made, and nukes let loose. To tell you the truth, we had a whole bunch of ideas to implement this year but having done CTF Mass 0wnage in Amsterdam not too long back, we just didn’t have enough time to pull all the stops. We did however manage to implement one new feature though which is the Achievements system. Achievements are like Starcraft 2 and PS3 trophies, teams get awarded a certain amount of points for accomplishing specific tasks. Here is the list of achievements that we had:
This issue is released in conjunction with HITBSecConf2010 KL. We've had a great first print year and it's all due to you, our loyal readers. Since the first issue back in January, we've seen more than a two-fold readership increase in successive issues. So thank you for your continuing support, and we're excited to bring you this fourth issue which wraps up our 2010 run.
