It’s a bit of joy and disappointment for iPhone 4 users seeking jailbreak. Good news is that Geohot has managed to jailbreak the device, which you can see in the photographic evidence above but the bad news is that he probably won’t release it.

“As far as a release goes, it probably won’t happen from me…again, please don’t ask for release dates. Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less.”

The iPhone 4 "grip of death" signal-strength problem stems from a bug that has been with Apple's bestselling smart phone all the way back to the original iPhone, Apple announced Friday, saying it had found a "simple and surprising" cause for the widely reported reception issues.

But Apple's "explanation" raised more questions than it answered.

Apple claims that an email exchange between CEO Steve Jobs and a customer over the iPhone 4’s reception issues is a fake, according to the company.

The conversation had originally been printed on 1 July on the blog Boy Genius Report, and features Jobs trying to placate an irate, self-described “Mac fan”.
An Apple spokesperson “emphatically” denied to Fortune magazine that the exchange between Jobs and the customer had ever occurred.

Apple to Patch iPhone's 4 Reception Glitch

Apple on Friday denied that the iPhone 4 had a faulty antenna, claiming that the problem was the software that determines how many signal bars to display.

Apple said that's the reason behind widespread complaints from users that the iPhone 4 can show a sudden plunge in signal strength when they hold it in a way that covers a small black strip on one edge of the phone. That drop seems exaggerated because the phone can wrongly display four or five bars of signal strength when it shouldn't, Apple said.

Is Apple covering up the real problem with its iPhone?

A couple of days ago Apple sent an open letter to iPhone 4 owners. The letter was in response to earlier reports of iPhone users having reception issues when holding the iPhone 4 the wrong way.

If you’re not familiar with the reception issues, Sam Diaz does a great job recapping the whole timeline. The crazy part about the latest round, though, is that instead of Apple admitting to a hardware flaw, the company is now saying that it has been misreporting signal strength since the original iPhone.
