L33tdawg: The article states the price of the device will be about $200 -- although it doesn't say what currency this is in. Even if it's USD200, it's still DAMN cheap for a laptop, and if it's in Singapore dollars (equiv to about USD100), then that's even better news! Now, if only the company would be kind enough to send a review unit over to us, so we can write up an analysis... hmmmmz.

Preemptible Kernel Now Compatible With 0(1) Scheduler

This afternoon Robert Love announced the release of a preemptible kernel patch that is compatible with Ingo Molnar's new 0(1) scheduler. The patches both now work together in the stable 2.4 kernel tree and the 2.5 development kernel. There's more information here.

L33tdawg: I think it's still going to be sometime before we see 'rampaging Linux viruses' but it's bound to happen sooner or later. The thing is, right now, Windows has the widest user base -- makes sense to write a virus for a platform that will surely spread like wild fire. How many home and business users do you know using Linux as their desktop?

Ingo Molnar recently posted a patch to the Linux Kernel Mailing List that, in his own words, is "a pretty radical rewrite of the Linux scheduler". He includes patches for both 2.5.2-pre6 and 2.4.17. Kerneltrap includes links and an interesting followup discussion here.
