Indian budget website defaced, data remains untouched

In a major embarrassment to the state government on the eve of budget, hackers on Thursday broke into a server, maintained by information technology (IT) department, and added pages to websites of 27 government departments, including the crucial budget.ap.gov.in. The hackers, apparently from a foreign location, posted messages in Urdu and English.

The hacker created additional pages dz.htm and x.htm and named himself as BBOY1, sources in the information technology and communications department said.

Cyberwar between India and Bangladesh escalates

Bangladeshi hackers have been hacking Indian sites, and Indian hackers have been hacking Bangladeshi sites. Now it is escalating as each side calls for ‘cyberwar’ against the other.

A week ago the Indian Hackers group announced a ‘cyberwar’ against Bangladesh. This was quickly followed by news that a hacker calling himself ‘Silent Hacker’ had defaced 30 Bangladeshi government websites.

Hackers claim attack on American tear gas company

A US security company whose tear gas has been used against Egyptian demonstrators has become the latest victim of the Anonymous movement, hackers claimed Tuesday.

In a statement posted to the Internet, hackers claimed to have broken into Combined Systems Inc.’s website and stolen personal information belonging to clients and employees of the Jamestown, Pennsylvania-based firm. They accused the company of being run by war profiteers who sell “mad chemical weapons to militaries and cop shops around the world.”

'Biology hackers' create laboratory in New York City

A group of researchers has created the first community-run biology laboratory in New York City.

The lab is an effort to provide a home for amateur scientists, as well as professionals looking for a space away from academia and business.

The co-founder of Genspace says it is "crucial that this lab exists" in order to foster creativity in the sciences. The BBC's Matt Danzico visited the Brooklyn facility, which originally opened in late 2010, at a building home to a range of professionals ranging from designers to pastry chefs.

Canadian online surveillance bill will be 'a gold mine' for hackers

The Conservative government revealed legislation on Tuesday that would increase online surveillance of citizens, as critics and privacy experts argued the bill would unjustly infringe upon the rights of Canadians and act as a magnet for data-hungry hackers.

“This is going to be like the Fort Knox of information that the hackers and the real bad guys will want to go after. This is going to be a gold mine,” said Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian.

Hackers target TicketWeb customers in email database hack

Online ticketing firm Ticketmaster has admitted that its subsidiary TicketWeb was the victim of a security breach last week after hackers managed to access its marketing system and email customers on multiple occasions attempting to send them to a malicious link.

Customers received up to four emails purporting to be from the firm telling them to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat (see below) but the firm warned customers to delete the emails and not to click on any links contained within them.

Hackers attack Czech IFPI branch

The web page of the Czech branch of the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) was this morning attacked by unknown hackers who damaged its operation, head of the Czech IFPI Petra Zikovska has told CTK.

Zikovska said the attack was likely to be connected with the ACTA anti-counterfeiting treaty. After the attack, the web page www.ifpi.cz had a modified form and was not fully operational, Zikovska said.

CIA Website DDoSed, Struggles To Recover

An Anonymous-related Twitter channel claimed Friday that the group had successfully taken down the CIA's public-facing website.

The CIA website reportedly remained inaccessible several hours after the attack, then appeared to be offline intermittently for the rest of the weekend, as well as on Monday, in the face of what appeared to be a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. Anonymous had previously been making a habit of targeting the FBI on Fridays.
