Even though MacWorld Expo has come and gone without the anticipated announcement of the iPhone Nano, rumors still persist that Apple intends to release a smaller, less expensive version of its flagship smartphone.

The latest of these comes from the generally reliable Economic Daily News, who reports that this entertainment-oriented smartphone will debut in June "at the earliest". According to the various unconfirmed reports, the iPhone Nano will be about the same height as the recently-released iPod Nano, but wider and thicker.

Apple files patent for camera hidden behind display

We've already seen the iSight indicator light "disappear" behind the bezel of Apple's MacBook and iMac computers. A recently published patent application could make the iSight itself not only disappear, but move to the middle of the screen. MacBooks, iMacs, and even iPhones and iPod touches could take advantage of the new technology.

Submitted in July 2007, the filing details plans for a camera mounted behind a display that could capture an image "while the display elements are in an inactive state (in which the display elements are darkened and at least partially transparent)."

iWork '09 Cracked and Available for Download

Hours into the big announcement, hackers were able to compromise the latest version of Apple's productivity suite of applications, iWork '09. The latest version of iWork requires at least Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) to run.

While Softpedia doesn't condone software hacks, “iWork '09 cracked” does make an interesting subject, considering how fast hackers have been this time around. And while various other Mac applications are illegally available for download (including real copies of Mac OS X), iWork '09 can't come in second, with the updates confirmed by Apple.

Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro to go Unibody, sans removable battery (Silver-Zinc replacement?)

Our folks in Asia are at it again with some pretty startling news. The 17-inch MacBook Pro is going Unibody, like the 13-inch and 15-inch models. That, in itself isn't really that big of a deal; it was widely expected. The big news is that Apple is making a super slim battery pack for the 17-inch MacBook Pros that will last much longer than current models. However, you won't be able to remove the battery pack. It will be inside the machine, just like iPods and iPhones. How? I've outlined a hypothesis on Apple pioneering Silver-Zinc battery usage here.

25 Years of Mac: From Boxy Beige to Silver Sleek

It's the 25th anniversary of the Apple Macintosh, but Steve Jobs' eyes are dry. At the company headquarters in Silicon Valley, where he was presenting a set of new laptops to the press last October, I mentioned the birthday to him. Jobs recoiled at any suggestion of nostalgia. "I don't think about that," he said. "When I got back here in 1997, I was looking for more room, and I found an archive of old Macs and other stuff. I said, 'Get it away!' and I shipped all that shit off to Stanford. If you look backward in this business, you'll be crushed. You have to look forward."
