The Sunday Telegraph understands that Apple has given up on its plan to bypass operators after they warned that they would refuse to continue subsidising the cost of the expensive phones. At present mobile operators pay Apple the full £375 cost of the phone, which they pass on to consumers for free if they sign up for 24-month contracts.

According to DigiTimes, three manufacturers will begin delivering any-layer HDI (high density interconnect) circuit boards next month for a new model iPad expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2011.

Four more suppliers are expected to be added to the roster in February, when shipments will supposedly begin.

Apple on Thursday issued yet another iOS golden master to developers, this time dubbed iOS 4.2.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

People familiar with the latest software update said it is known as Build 8C148. Software that has reached the golden master status is typically final code that will be released to the public. However, two golden masters of iOS 4.2 were issued to developers: the first one for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on Nov. 1, and a second specifically for the iPad less than two weeks later.

Apple will launch Mac OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and iOS 4.2 for iPhone and iPad on Friday, Nov. 12, according to a new rumor.

Citing an inside source at AT&T, MacStories reported Tuesday that iOS 4.2 will be released on Friday at 10 a.m. The update, which will mark the debut of iOS 4 on the iPad, will require iTunes 10.1 to be installed.
