Microsoft asks Intel for a 16-core Atom server chip

The Intel Atom processor line is associated with low power usage in devices such as a netbook or nettop computer. The emphasis is definitely not on performance, it’s on pushing up battery life on a device with a small display and mid-range graphics requirements while still managing a decent desktop experience.

Microsoft thinks Atom can do more, though, and wants to use it in servers. With that in mind it is calling on Intel to up the cores in an Atom chip to 16, and deploying it as a low power server chip solution.

A couple of days ago I posted a story about the jailbreak tool called, WP Device Manager. [New Jailbreak Tool WP Device Manager is in the Works] Now Microsoft is responding by giving jailbreakers a T-shirt and a free phone from Microsoft.

Apparently, Microsoft representatives have met with Windows Phone 7 jailbreakers in an effort to clear up problems about how they can support “homebrew” apps, those apps from third-party software that doesn’t require the approval of Microsoft, in such a way that benefits both parties.

Over 2 million Windows Phone 7 licences sold, 6,500 apps available

Microsoft continues to trickle out some information about the sales of its Windows Phone 7 operating system, as the software giant told Engadget that it has sold over 2 million licenses already.

The news comes about a month after some ambiguous figures said 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 units were sold to retailers, although that doesn’t necessarily mean those are in the hands of customers. Likewise, the licenses are to manufacturers like HTC and Samsung, so the 2 million figure could actually mean the same as the amount sold to retailers.

Thanksgiving 2006. I brought with me to my sister-in-law's home in Baltimore a new gaming console I was testing.

After a meal of turkey and curry (that's a traditional South Asian Thanksgiving), it was off to the basement TV room. And over the next few hours, something amazing happened. I saw kids and grandparents, uncles and aunts, all playing video games together: baseball, bowling, tennis, golf.
