Microsoft planning 'next release' of Windows Phone for this holiday season

There has been some controversy about the time scales for the next major release for Windows Phone and its counterpart for Windows 8.

According to Mary Jo Foley Windows Phone Blue will come after the Windows 8 release, which according to rumours is set to  be released this summer.

Now a job posting by Microsoft for a Software Development Engineer in Test has confirmed that Microsoft is targeting the Holidays for the next major release, the usual pattern for the Windows Phone team.

Nokia starts delivering Windows Phone 7.8 update

Microsoft officials said in November last year that the 7.8 update would be preloaded on new Windows Phone handsets aimed at specific markets, and then pushed to existing Windows Phone 7.x handset users in "early 2013."

If you are a Windows Phone user with a different handset, when will you get the update? I asked Microsoft and officials declined to comment. I'm guessing this lack of comment is because Microsoft isn't controlling when the carriers will push this. But otherwise, all I can say is SIGH!

News emerged yesterday that AT&T is planning a major new marketing assault, to widen its promotion of the Nokia Lumia 900. The carrier has already been hard at work in promoting the device, with its in-store sales staff being widely praised for their knowledgeable recommendations of the product, and those efforts seem to be paying off so far, with the company reporting that sales have so far exceed its expectations.
