Malware isn't something that just infects your home computer. It can also hit your website. Hackers use methods like code injection attacks to insert a piece of Javascript or an invisible frame into the website. To the visitor, everything looks normal, but behind the scenes, this malicious code is looking for vulnerabilities on the visitor's computer.

Affinity Multimedia Design, the company which designed www.newbritainct.gov (the website for New Britain City), said that a virus attacked the site after infiltrating PCs at the main city hall.

Officials suspect that an attacker hacked into the key website of the city. Albeit the attacker hasn't been spotted, the technicians managed to quarantine a dubious Internet Protocol address. In certain instances, it is reported that the computer worm has infected other computers on the network that accessed the websites which the server hosted.

Whenever there is a big disaster people rush to the Internet to find the latest news. But that can lead them into trouble because malware distributors will quickly put up web pages related to that disaster, but containing malicious code.

Kapersky to Offer Hardware-Based Antivirus, with CPU

Kaspersky has just been granted a patent for a hardware-based anti-virus, something which could potentially revolutionize the way anti-virus software works. The hardware-based anti-virus will be able to work independently or in combination with any software on the computer or machine.

The patented device by Kaspersky will connect inside of the computer or machine between the hard drive (HDD or SSD) and the computing unit, between the CPU and RAM. The device is also connected on the system bus or integrated into the disk controller.

Zeus Trojan found on 74,000 PCs in global botnet

More than 74,000 PCs at nearly 2,500 organizations around the globe were compromised over the past year and a half in a botnet infestation designed to steal login credentials to bank sites, social networks, and e-mail systems, a security firm said Wednesday.

The systems were infected with the Zeus Trojan and the botnet was dubbed "Kneber" after a username that linked the infected PCs on corporate and government systems, according to NetWitness.

In an effort to boost sales, sellers of a fake antivirus product known as Live PC Care are offering their victims live technical support.

According to researchers at Symantec Corp., once users have installed the program, they see a screen, falsely informing them that their PC is infected with several types of malware. That's typical of this type of program. What's unusual, however, is the fact that the free trial version of Live PC Care includes a big yellow "online support" button.

Egypt Among Top Trojan Creation Countries

Security is a major concern all around the world and according to Kaspersky Lab, Egypt seems to be responsible for three per cent of the world’s malware creation that are intended to steal computer passwords.

According to reports, Egypt was identified as the region’s top creator of PSW Trojans. PSW trojan is a special version of malware specifically designed to steal passwords and log in details from computer users.

Study finds that malware infections growing

A recent report by a security startup company suggests that the number of Web pages infected with malware almost doubled in the last quarter, compared with a year ago.

More than 560,000 Web sites and their approximately 5.5 million pages were infected with malware in 2009's fourth quarter, according to Dasient, based in Palo Alto, Calif.

Hackers behind the new version of the Zeus/Zbot banking Trojan expressed their gratefulness to the creators of the antivirus software, Kaspersky Lab and Avira in particular. The Trojan comes with a hidden message that thanks and taunts the security vendors for ‘helping’ them improve their malware.

The news was reported at Trend Micro blog which wrote about the new binary file identified as TROJ_ZBOT.BTM. The malware steals online banking information, including user names and passwords, and has earned a reputation as one of the deadliest banking Trojans.
