Twitter Opens Its Nifty Analytics Dashboard To Everyone

Back in July, Twitter launched a really nifty analytics dashboard. A bit like Google Analytics for tweets, it allows you to gauge the performance of each and every tweet you sent. How many people saw it? How many of those actually clicked your links?

There was one catch, though: it was only open to advertisers and verified users.

No longer! Now you too can obsess way too hard over the performance of every tweet you send! Hurray!

Twitter suspends accounts sharing beheading images

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo announced Wednesday that the social network was suspending all accounts that posted images from the appalling video allegedly showing the beheading of photojournalist James Foley.

"We have been and are actively suspending accounts as we discover them related to this graphic imagery. Thank you," Costolo tweeted.

Twitter acquires password security startup Mitro

Twitter has acquired a small startup called Mitro, which focuses on password security.

Mitro announced Thursday that it is joining Twitter in its New York office and will be "focusing on a variety of geo-related projects." The company will not be integrated into the social network, but rather keep working on its own products that let several people share passwords to one account.

In the wake of the NSA revelations last year, anyone and everyone in tech started publishing transparency reports about data requests.

Now the thing to do is apparently reveal statistics about corporate diversity -- most of which have not panned out to be the greatest selling points.

Nevertheless, Twitter is the latest in big tech to share the ethnic and gender makeup of its workforce. Simply put, the San Francisco-headquartered business doesn't exactly stand out from the pack.

Twitter updated some of its security features recently and now allows users to reset passwords directly through a text message, which means you can be up and running on Twitter quicker than ever, should you forget your password or need to change it do to privacy concerns. Also, Twitter said it has bolstered its security in general.

Twitter has changed the way it handles passwords and has made it harder for attackers to take over users' accounts.

Post Heartbleed and a number of assaults on personal accounts, security is high on the agenda. Twitter said in a blog post that its changes are designed to preserve individual account integrity and clean up its authentication and password reset processes.

Syrian Electronic Army Hijacks WSJ Twitter Accounts

The Syrian Electronic Army has hijacked a total of four Twitter accounts of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and has posted a message claiming that Ira Winker is a cockroach.

The Syrian hacktivists hijacked the WSJ Africa (@wsjafrica), the WSJ Europe (@wsjeurope), the WSJ Vintage (@vsjvintage), and the WSJ.D (@wsjd) Twitter accounts, Poynter reported. They posted the message “@Irawinkler is a cockroach,” along with a picture of Ira Winkler’s head on the body of a cockroach.

Privacy in social media can be a falsehood. The whole concept of sites like Twitter and Facebook is to share. Sure, you can limit what you share, and with whom you share, but once the information hits the servers, you have lost control. Hell, there is the possibility of accidentally sharing something by simply not understanding the settings. Some argue that the settings on some sites are intentionally confusing.
