Today I found my email account at Yahoo.com deactivated. It is an account that I have been using since when Yahoo first opened its doors and offered free email to the masses.

I attempted to logon as has been my habit over the past couple of years to find my access had been terminated for a violation of their Terms Of Service.

U.S. FTC shuts down drivers license spam scam

Several unscrupulous ''spammers'' have been shut down after bombarding Internet users with e-mail offers for allegedly bogus international drivers' licenses, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission said Thursday.

The move should put the brakes on a common scam that has evolved into one of the most prevalent forms of unwanted junk e-mail over the past several years.

Spam is increasing at such an alarming rate that people may stop relying on E-mail to communicate, according to E-mail security firm Postini, which says spam volume jumped some 150% in 2002.
In another danger signal, the percentage of messages sent to Postini's clients identified as spam climbed from just 20% in January 2002 to more than 60% in December.
