With the release of yesterday's PS3_FTP_Server which enabled easy access to dev_hdd0, dev_flash, dev_flash2, dev_flash3 and dev_bdvd on the PS3, several developers are now examining the PlayStation 3's dev_flash and registry entries.

Forum user diemetal has let us know today that Spanish PS3 developer DemonHades has began to analyze dev_flash from PS3 Firmware version 3.41, stating the following (roughly translated): "TeamHades has removed the three dev_flash that PS3 has. Thanks to the Homebrew PS3News we needed to extract (PS3 FTP Server).

Thousands of people in the UK who were prompted to upgrade their HTC Desire phone to Android 2.2 instead ended up getting a phone that no longer worked. As a result, O2 has pulled the update.

The Desire was the latest phone in the UK to get the new version of Android. Other devices had received the upgrade without incident. But Desire owners lit up O2's support forums with claims of software crashes and bricked phones immediately after performing the update.

If you’ve taken advantage of the recent PS3 hack and want to carry on using it then you should avoid installing the new PS3 firmware update, v3.42.

The PS3 was finally hacked a few weeks ago when the PS Jailbreak went on sale via several Australian distributors. The mod chip enabled games to play pirated games and back games up to their hard drive.

When Google announced last month that it would cease the development of the Google Wave communication and collaboration system due to low levels of user adoption, it noted that the central parts of the code were already open source and that it would develop tools to help users extract their content from Wave.

Google has now decided to package the software in a form that will allow organisations to host their own waves, although it will not have the full functionality of Google Wave.

Two weeks ago you'd have to pay an Australian importer for a specialized USB key. Four days ago open-source software let you roll your own. Today, there's no need for any of that -- you can hack your PS3 with a tethered smartphone. Working closely with the PSGroove team, hacker Kakaroto adapted the same jailbreak to the Nokia N900, and the open-source community lost no time porting it to the Palm Pre as well.

20 Must-Have Firefox Add-ons

Just how popular are add-ons to Mozilla Firefox’s Web browser? A usage survey taken by Mozilla as of one year ago revealed that one-third of all Firefox users—at least—use add-ons in some capacity. That’s a pretty big deal, but not quite as eye-opening a number as the raw statistics from Mozilla’s official add-ons page.

PSJailbreak code leaked online

Recently, Sony blocked the sale of a device called PSJailbreak that would have let anyone run homebrew apps and play backed-up or copied games from their PlayStation 3. Now the same code running the device has been leaked out to the internet, allowing anyone to break open their PS3 if they have the right hardware.

The ability to play copied games is locked away in the code but we all know how long that is going to last. Having the code out there also means those who were dinged by the removal of OtherOS should be able to reactivate it.

Developers have created a version of the Android operating system that can run on Nokia phones, giving users the ability to access Google's software. The NITDroid project has released a stable version of Android 2.2, dubbed "Froyo," for the Nokia N900, which usually ships with Nokia's Maemo operating system.

With the Android hack, users can receive calls and data and access Google applications on their Nokia device, however, the software is still missing camera functionality.

One of our favorite devs/hackers/awesome people, Birdman, just dropped the first Droid X ROM onto our laps and it’s officially time to get our DX paws a little filthy. Anyone with us?

His FlyX ROM (ROM Details here.) is only in “RC1 status”, but is available to anyone with a 2.2 rooted Droid X to try out via ROM Manager if they are willing to take the risk. Obviously we are willing to take that risk!
