O2 Forced To Pull Faulty Android 2.2 Desire Update

Thousands of people in the UK who were prompted to upgrade their HTC Desire phone to Android 2.2 instead ended up getting a phone that no longer worked. As a result, O2 has pulled the update.

The Desire was the latest phone in the UK to get the new version of Android. Other devices had received the upgrade without incident. But Desire owners lit up O2's support forums with claims of software crashes and bricked phones immediately after performing the update.

Users are now forced to either wait for a patch or actually send in their phone if it is completely bricked. It may not be until the end of the month before O2 is able to fix the problem.
