South Korean cellphone hackers nabbed in Philippines

Philippine police have arrested eight South Koreans who allegedly hacked into one of the country's biggest telecommunications companies to lower the cost of international cellphone calls for other Koreans in the Philippines.

Police Cyber Crime Division chief Gilbert Sosa said the hackers were rounded up Monday in four raids around metropolitan Manila along with seven Filipino women working for them.

Cybersecurity bill bombarded with amendments

As the U.S. Senate races toward its August recess, lawmakers are filing tons of amendments to the Cybersecurity Act, a number of them designed to add privacy protections.

The amendments are an effort to meet the wishes of pro-business Republicans and pro-privacy Democrats and to reach a compromise that can be enacted into law. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is pushing to get cybersecurity legislation voted on this week before the Senate breaks for recess in August.

Last week we found out that back in 2006 Apple Industrial Designer, Shin Nishibori, was asked to create mockups of what an iPhone-like device would look like if created by Sony. Nishibori’s prototype mockups have become a hot item of debate in the Apple vs Samsung trial as Samsung was hoping to use them as evidence that Apple copied Sony.

Two men sentenced in Michaels breach after looting ATMs

Two men each have been sentenced to 36 months in prison for withdrawing tens of thousands of dollars from ATMs with credit card information that was stolen from craft-store retail chain Michaels Stores.

In March, Eduard Arakelyan, 21, and Arman Vardanyan, 23, pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Team Poison teenager is sentenced to prison

A UK TEENAGER has pleaded guilty to criminal charges relating to cyber crime and sentenced to six months in prison for his troubles..

Junaid Hussain, 17 and of Birmingham, was the leader of the Team Poison group of hackers that infamously called the Met police anti-terrorism hotline for a bit of a giggle.

He has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to cause a public nuisance, because when he and the rest of Team Poison were making prank calls to the Met, legitimate callers were unable to get through.

Anonymous may help, not hinder, data retention laws

According to Dr Mark Gregory, RMIT University senior lecturer at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Anonymous' attack on AAPT was very opportunistic. Earlier, the group told ZDNet that the attack took several members to achieve. It was made possible through a vulnerable implementation of Adobe ColdFusion on Melbourne IT's servers, but Gregory said that it didn't require that much skill.

TorrentFreak has obtained a copy of the letter due to be sent out and it amounts to little more than a demand for cash wrapped up in an ACS:Law-style fishing exercise.
