iPhone 5 launch on 4th October? Apple has sent out invitations to journalists to visit its headquarters in Cupertino, California next week for an unspecified iPhone-related event.

No precise details are offered in the email invitation. No specific reference is made to the soon-to-be-released smartphone handset - the invitation simply says "Let's talk iPhone" - but the implication, to those who have been eagerly awaiting its launch for months, seems clear.

Are you using the Skype for iOS app on your iPhone or iPod Touch? Then you need to be aware of how easily your information — particularly your entire address book — could be stolen without your knowledge. All it takes is a single chat message.

According to TechCrunch, the issue was first discovered by AppSec Consulting security researcher Phil Purviance — who claims that he pointed out the vulnerability to Skype about a month ago. Leaked photo hints at A5 iPhone 4 revamp

A leaked photo has prompted speculation that Apple plans to launch a new iPhone 4S at the same time as it outs its upcoming flagship iPhone 5 in October.

The new image, which has surfaced on Chinese blogging site Weibo, shows a logic board with an ARM-based A5 processor in place - the type expected to appear in the new iPhone 5, as well as the handset's battery and other components. Slightly less expected is the appearance of what looks the fascia and LED display that look suspiciously like that of the existing iPhone 4.

Suppliers in the iPhone 5 supply chain in Taiwan have geared up production recently with volume shipments of the new Apple smartphones to begin soon. Production of iPhone 5s at OEM maker Foxconn Electronics has reportedly reached 150,000 units per day, according to industry sources.

Lens maker Largan Precision, touch panel maker TPK Holding, reinforced glass supplier G-Tech Optoelectronics and battery vendors Simplo and Dynapack are all operating at full swing currently, the sources indicated.

A little more light has been shed on the odd story of Apple losing another iPhone prototype in a Bay Area bar.

The man who’s home was searched by what he believed to be San Francisco Police Department officers was Bernal Heights resident Sergio Calderón, SF Weekly discovered. And the police officers? They may have been investigators working for Apple who were actually impersonating police officers.

Best Buy is expecting pre-sales of the iPhone 5 to begin in the first week of October, a leaked internal document from the retail giant reveals. In addition, the document says Apple’s eagerly-awaited handset is coming to the Sprint network.

Apple has ordered key components for a new iPhone it is aiming to launch by the end of September, said people familiar with the situation. These people said the new iPhone is expected to be similar to the current iPhone 4, but thinner and lighter with an improved eight-megapixel camera.
