Apple today released, then quickly pulled, its first update for iOS 8 after customers flooded its support forum with reports that their iPhone 6 and 6 Plus smartphones could no longer connect to a cellular network.

iOS 8.0.1, which was supposed to fix a host of bugs, including several prominent issues that had garnered press -- like one that barred apps relying on Apple's new Healthkit framework -- was released around 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET).

Despite KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s usually excellent track record on Apple predictions, he messed up his last prediction that the iPad Air 2 would make its appearance at Apple’s iPhone 6 launch event two weeks ago.

Obviously, that didn’t happen. But if you’re eager for an iPad Air boasting an A8 chip, a new report corroborates a rumor we’ve heard before: it’s coming in October. Don’t wait for an A8 iPad mini though: it’s at least three months away.

Appearing on CNBC Tuesday morning, reporter Eunice Yoon said that just hours ago, the Chinese government said the review of the license for the iPhone 6 would be "completed soon." That, she said, has helped to temporarily drive down prices for Apple's new handset on the black market, with locals believing that sales through official channels could begin.

Android smartphones are too far ahead for iPhones to ever catch up

Apple has finally conceded that big screens are better, as its new iPhones offer 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays. It has also finally conceded that a mobile operating system is better when it's more open, as iOS 8 supports third-party keyboards and inter-app communication. It's almost like Apple is saying that Steve Jobs was wrong while rival Android manufacturers and Google were right all along. Oh, the horror. How will Apple fanbois be able to explain this?

Apple CEO Tim Cook and several other top executives today pulled the wraps off of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, and showed the company's long-awaited wearable, dubbed the Apple Watch, to a large audience in Cupertino, Calif.

At the same venue where, 30 years ago, co-founder Steve Jobs famously pulled the original 1984 Macintosh personal computer from a tote bag and then later let it speak in a robotic voice, Apple held its largest product rollout since the unveiling of the original iPhone in 2007.

Today Apple unveiled a trifecta of new products that are surely sending worrisome ripples down the spines of the company’s competitors.

At a massive media event here at the Flint Center for Performing Arts, Apple announced two new large-screen iPhones, a new mobile payment platform, and an advanced touchscreen wristwatch. Judging by the numerous outbreaks of applause and the occasional standing ovation, the new products were met with great support by the huge audience of press, Apple employees, and VIPs from the entertainment, technology, and fashion industries.

iPhone 6: Four things we need, but may not get

I live in a mixed household. I use a Samsung Galaxy S5, my wife uses an iPhone 5s. Half of my friends use Android phones, the other half use iPhones.

So, I know both worlds. Unlike some knee-jerk smartphone fans, I can see there's a lot of good in both major smartphone families. And, I can also see that it looks like the iPhone 6 will have lots of neat, new features.

Xiaomi takes copying Apple to the next level with blatant iOS ripoff

By now, it’s obvious that Xiaomi is heavily inspired by Apple’s product design. The Chinese company’s founder even dresses up like Steve Jobs at events and uses the “One More Thing” presentation gimmick.

Now we’ve been given a look at MIUI 6, the software for Xiaomi’s new Mi 4 smartphone. It’s the most blatant ripoff of Apple to date. Xiamoi doesn’t even attempt to hide the fact that it has based many of its stock apps entirely off Apple’s in iOS. Wherever MIUI 6 doesn’t look like a prettified Android skin, it looks like a direct copy of the iPhone.
