iOS 8.2 has been in development for several months now, and today Apple is formally releasing the update to the public. It's available as an over-the-air update or through iTunes for any device running iOS 8, including the iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, and 6 Plus; all iPads except the first-generation model; and the fifth-generation iPod Touch.

Outlook for iOS branded a 'security nightmare'

Outlook for iOS and Android was released to rave reviews yesterday, but it now looks like it's on a one-way ticket to Borksville, calling at Securitygeddon and Hackesberg.

The app, based on Acompli, which was purchased by the company last year, has been described as superior to the Gmail and Apple stock apps, but a post from security blogger Rene Winkelmeyer points to a whole bunch of problems that make it an absolute mare.

People Power knows that you probably have a nice assortment of outdated (but still decently functional) iOS devices at home. And if they're just taking up space anyway, you might as well find a clever way to repurpose them.

So it developed Presence, an app designed to quickly convert your backup iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into a quasi-security-camera.

iOS 8 jailbreak finally 'stable enough' to use

iOS 8 has been technically jailbroken since October 22, but it’s taken weeks to get it polished enough for Cydia, the jailbreak alternative to the App Store.

Now that things are “stable enough,” Cydia creator Jay Freeman has flipped the switch to start allowing the sale of iOS 8 tweaks and themes.

A group of Chinese hackers called Pangu made and released the iOS 8 jailbreak last month, but it was a rather crude implementation that required bug fixes and updates to make it safe for users beyond the most experienced jailbreakers.

There's a scary new piece of malware that collects call logs, phonebook contacts and other sensitive information from Apple iPhones and iPads. Should you be worried?

The malware was first discovered by researchers at Palo Alto Networks who dubbed it WireLurker and said it exhibited behavior that had never been seen before in malicious software targeting Apple's platforms.

iOS 8 Jailbroken, We Recommend Holding Off for Now

The same team who released the kind of sketchy iOS 7 jailbreak has released a jailbreak for iOS 8.1. Currently, it's Windows-only, in Chinese, and doesn't install Cydia by default. You should probably wait to install it.

This jailbreak came as a bit of a surprise and subsequently it's a little rough around the edges. Users have reported that using a passcode crashes the system, a number of problems with Cydia, and a wide number of tweaks don't work. Cydia's been updated, but requires a manual install over SSH.

iOS 8.1 plugs security hole that made it easy to install emulators

The next version of iOS may not be an upgrade for fans who use their iDevices to emulate classic games. The latest beta version of iOS 8.1 removes the famous (or infamous) "Date Trick" workaround used by iOS emulator makers to bypass App Store restrictions on their work, without the need to jailbreak the device.
