Napster, in an effort to lift a lower court order that forced the company to install filters to block music on its service, appealed to The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. In a short, two-page order the answer came today. It was no.

Review: LimeWire

posted onJune 26, 2001

Along with Bearshare, LimeWire is one of the better Gnutella clients. The layout is similar to that of Napster, where your menu selections are all at the top, but it?s more funky and aerodynamic. Its color scheme is easy on the eyes with a variation of blue tones throughout the program. One question though: Shouldn?t Lime Wire be lime green at least?

Bose Goes MP3

One of the biggest changes brought about by digital music is the fact that computer systems now stand in for stereo systems when users access the music they have downloaded/converted or stream via Web radio. Because of the relative mediocrity of computer sound systems, this has produced a need for users to either find a way to conveniently connect their digital music collection to the stereo in the other room or improve the speaker quality in their systems itself to equal a good stereo.

We Test Drive the Archos Jukebox MP3 player

The Archos Jukebox 6000 is the third of the Jukebox players we have tested. First introduced by Remote Solutions with the Personal Jukebox and followed by Creative's offering the Nomad Jukebox, these players offer GBs of tune-toting capacity.

The best news about this unit is that it is not SDMI compliant, which means you are free to upload files from the player back to your computer or a friends. This feature is denied most MP3 portables thanks to the SDMI.

Review: BearShare

This program starts out on the right foot. BearShare does all of my setup for the ever-confusing Gnutella network properly and promptly. All of your options are laid out near the top of the program with tabs separating your options, much like Napster. It seems as though BearShare is all about getting the user what they want, the files, and not the in-your-face design.
