Hearing-aid hackers fine-tuning their own devices

If you are short-sighted, usually all it takes is a visit to an optician to get a pair of spectacles to help restore the world to sharp detail.

But if you suffer hearing problems, visiting an audiologist just the once will probably not restore sounds to crisp clarity. The consequent frustration is driving some people with the appropriate expertise to hack into their own hearing aids to carry out DIY improvements.

Hackers Leak over 200,000 Account Details in ProjectDragonFly

Hundreds of thousands of record sets from the databases of various sites worldwide have been published by TeamGhostShell as part of the operation they call ProjectDragonFly.

“I am proud to say that #ProjectDragonFly is still pretty much alive and ready to raise awareness once more against the Communist Party, and an ongoing, overall, protest for freedom of speech in China,” DeadMellox, the leader of TeamGhostShell, wrote next to the massive data leak.

Turkish Foreign Ministry Hacked

Members of RedHack recently accessed the Web site of Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stealing data and and placing photos of Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyp Erdogan embracing Syrian president Bashar al Assad and Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi on the site.

"Today, the group provided a link to a Dropbox file-sharing address, which contained images of the identity cards the Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued for foreign diplomats working in Turkey," PanARMENIAN.net reports.

Mozilla Blog: The #HackWEEKDAY Contest at #HITB2012AMS

At the end of last May, Mozilla sponsored the HackWEEKDAY contest at the third annual Hack In the Box conference in the Netherlands. The contest ran alongside the rest of the HITB conference which featured presentations on security topics including new iPhone jailbreaks and a second day key note from Bruce Schneier.
