Blizzard has confirmed that a work-around that allows hackers to gain access to games protected by its authenticator tool has been invented.

This is the first confirmed case of a compromised World of Warcraft account with an authenticator attached. The affected user alerted others to the issue on the official forums, which was responded to by a Blizzard rep, who confirmed that the case was genuine. Other players then reported similar experiences. Blizzard poster Kropacius informed readers that the type of problem was a 'Man In The Middle' attack.

We are in a recession. Perhaps it's even a depression. But it's really not that bad. You see, someone, somewhere just spent $41,300 on a Nintendo game.

Is Stadium Events a great Nintendo game? I suspect not many people really know. Because not many people have ever played it. Not many copies were ever produced. Just after it was launched, Nintendo ordered a recall.

Piracy fears erode rights of gamers

While corporations try to exert control over the rise of piracy in the digital age, people’s rights are being whittled down. Software companies are requiring people to register games and products online and it often involves collecting personal data that have now become required fields to register products.

I have no idea how knowing my birthday is going to help me run the program or why they need to install their own backdoor programs underneath the one I’ve purchased just to ensure I didn’t pirate the software.

I think this is something we all fall victim to: there is an MMOG out there that we just want to see die. Their ever-growing success leaves this bitter taste in our mouths, and suddenly everything tastes disgusting in our lives. But to compensate, a near-insatiable urge to kill rises within us, satisfied only by the demise of the source inflicting this desire unto us.

PC gaming DRM: One soldier's story

With companies like Ubisoft leading the way to a future where all PC games need to be in contact with their home servers all the time, one group is being particularly harmed by this movement: soldiers stationed in remote locations. Life on deployment is hard, psychologically demanding, and often lonely for soldiers missing their loved ones and families. Gaming is a popular pastime in American bases, but DRM can take that away.

Unfortunately, GamesRadar has yet to wrestle the most formidable type of free games into submission so that they can be preserved in their proper list form for eternity. We’re talking about the free games that were good enough to sell, important enough to review, and memorable enough to warrant a second play through years later.

Hackers claim to have found way to play copied software on Sony’s previously impervious console
With piracy rife in the Wii, Xbox 360, DS and PSP markets, the PS3 has to date proved the only current-gen machine to successfully fend off the hackers – but it seems that things could be about to change.

According to reports on Maxconsole, a lengthy and convoluted workaround has been discovered that allows users to play pirated copies of Killzone 2, PES 2008 and Burnout Paradise.
