Apple to release OS X 10.9 with new power-user features

OS X 10.9, which is internally codenamed “Cabernet,” will focus on various “power-user” enhancements and take core features from iOS, according to our sources. Unlike operating system updates such as OS X Leopard and OS X Lion, OS X 10.9 will likely not be an overhauled approach to how the operating system feels and functions.

Apple loses again in Chinese App Store copyright case

Apple has lost another copyright case in China after it was held responsible for content third parties uploaded to the bookish corner of its App Store.

The company was ordered to pay three Chinese writers more than 730,000 yuan (£76,600) in compensation after allowing their content to be uploaded and sold on the App Store without first seeking permission, according to China Daily.

Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2013 second quarter ended March 30, 2013. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $43.6 billion and quarterly net profit of $9.5 billion, or $10.09 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $39.2 billion and net profit of $11.6 billion, or $12.30 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 37.5 percent compared to 47.4 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 66 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple apparently returns eight million iPhones to Foxconn

Apple apparently has returned between five and eight million "defective" iPhones to manufacturing partner Foxconn.

That's according to a report from China Business, which has heard from a source at Foxconn that Apple isn't too pleased with the firm at the moment. If the report is true, the Cupertino company has sent back up to eight million defective iPhones to the manufacturer, describing them as "dysfunctional" and "non-compliant".

Investors brace for more stock volatility on Apple earnings

 For years, Apple Inc was a stock investor's dream regardless of the market environment. But now concern about the iPhone maker's growth has made many investors wary about a big share swing after its earnings are released on Tuesday.

Options pricing on Friday suggested a post-earnings move of about 7.5 percent by April 26. That is far more than in the past and reflects the fact that Apple stock has become more volatile.

Apple on Tuesday patched Java for the aged OS X Snow Leopard and tweaked Safari to give users more control over what websites they let run the vulnerability plagued Oracle software.

Oracle on Tuesday shipped an update for Java 6 and Java 7 to patch up to 42 bugs -- the number depends on the version and platform -- for Windows and OS X. Because Apple maintains Java 6 for OS X -- unlike Java 7, which Oracle handles -- it followed with its own update.
