MacBook and MacBook Pro Repair Document Leaked, Confirms "Late 2008" Update

Apple has published a support document (PDF) specifically for the "MacBook/MacBook Pro (Late 2008)" models. Besides the name, the document is not especially revealing. It appears to be a service document when replacing the display on the new MacBooks.

Apple will be announcing the new MacBook and MacBook Pro on Tuesday, October 14th at a special media event.

iPhone being banned in the Netherlands?

Yes, it is. More or less. There is a new law in the Netherlands that forbids the sale of (electronic) devices containing batteries that can not easily be removed for disposal. The regulation is there to prevent polluting batteries ending op in the regular trash. The regulation also stipulates the requirement of describing how to remove the the battery in the manual. The iPhone fails both regulation demands. The regulation is based on a European directive. No doubt more European countries will follow suit.

Apple shares surge, investors like valuation

Shares of Apple (AAPL.O) Inc. rallied more than 9 percent Friday, as investors saw a newly attractive valuation in the battered stock and anticipated new laptop computers.

Apple, which also makes iPod music players and iPhone communications devices, has scheduled a Tuesday event at which it is expected to unveil a line of lower-cost notebooks. The company is scheduled to release its quarterly results the following Tuesday.

Newer MBPs may contain faulty NVIDIA chips

Not a surprise for those who have suffered from the issue, but a welcome admission nonetheless: Apple has now acknowledged that some recent MacBook Pro models contain faulty GeForce 8600M GT chips that cause video display problems. Dell and HP have already told customers similar stories.

In a support document posted yesterday, Apple testily admitted that while NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers were not affected, an internal investigation revealed three models of MacBook Pro indeed had problems.

Apple to replace iPod with 'iWatch'?

In a candid interview, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has admitted that the iPod's popularity could be wavering, and that Apple's future may actually be in timepieces.

At the very least, losing your wallet to a thief is a major pain in the neck: you lose your cash and (possibly) some precious mementos, and you have to cancel your credit cards and replace your driver’s license. More seriously, the thief could steal your identity, using your personal information to make purchases, get loans, or cause you all kinds of grief by pretending to be you.

All that and more could also happen if your Mac’s data were to fall into the wrong hands.

There have been some indications lately that Apple is taking a less rigorous approach to secrecy. Once the company went to great lengths to conceal its future plans; in recent months there has been a marked increase in the number of leaks that have since proved genuine - take the MacBook Air, Snow Leopard and the newest iPod nanos for instance.

Nvidia powered Macbook rumours circulate

THE MAC BLOGOSPHERE is all a flutter with rumours that a new Macbook could soon be on its way, complete with an Nvidia graphics chipset.

A cryptic promo pic on Nvidia’s site and whispers that certain NV employees have actually seen some is sending fanboys into a frenzy. The chipset in question seems to be the MCP7A-U, integrated into Mac’s GPU for the MacBook and possibly even the MacBook Air.

Apple threatens to shut iTunes

Apple has threatened to shut down its iTunes Store following a row over plans to increase royalty payments to artists.

The US Copyright Royalty Board, the organisation which determines how much artists get paid for the sale of their songs, is expected to increase royalty payments from nine cents to 15 cents a track (5p to 8p), a 66 per cent rise.
