We've delved into iPhone OS 3.0 and so far, we like what we've seen. But after playing with it all day, we noted a few new features that should be thrown in for the next update as well as a few existing apps that desperately need a makeover.

Apple plugs critical Java security hole affecting Tiger, Leopard

Apple on Monday finally got around to patching a widely-publicized security flaw in the version of Java shipping with Mac OS X, which could leave a Mac open to attack while browsing the web.

The Mac maker came under criticism from a pair of security firms last month for failing to patch the exploit, which it has reportedly been aware of since January.

The vulnerability, which theoretically exists on all platforms supporting Java, could allow a remote user to run code, delete files, and execute applications on a Mac through a maliciously crafted Java applet.

A couple of hackers/thieves (call them what you want) have apparently found a way to purchase an iPhone 3G S through Apple's online store CONTRACT FREE! From the site:

Four years later: Why did Apple drop PowerPC?

It's been four years this month since Apple announced it would drop the PowerPC architecture and switch to Intel's x86 design. One person involved in the back-and-forth between Apple and IBM at the time provides some insight into why it happened.

When Apple made the watershed announcement in June 2005 ending its longstanding relationship with IBM and Motorola, Apple CEO Steve Jobs attributed the switch to a superior Intel roadmap.

Security experts have discovered two new worms targeting Apple users using Mac OS X.

Sophos found an updated version of the Tored worm, which it had earlier reported back in May, though it was thought too amateurishly made to cause real problems. The real threat comes from a second worm Sophos calls OSX/Jahlav-C, which was first noted by Jerome Segura, a security analyst for ParetoLogic.

13-inch MacBook Pro teardown reveals "unimaginative" SD Card slot

A dissection of Apple's first 13-inch MacBook Pro shows the company may have run out of real estate to create a slot that would completely conceal SD cards but also points to certain do-it-yourself upgrades being near-trivial jobs for prospective owners.

The undisputed teardown experts at iFixit have just completed their step-by-step illustrated disassembly of the latest member of the MacBook Pro family, in which they note that the system's new SD card slot "is rather unimaginative" given that "half the card hangs out of the side of the computer."

Apple’s new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro notebooks were a surprise for their WWDC 2009 keynote, not least because most people were only expecting the iPhone 3G S. Still, we won’t turn our noses up at new unibody machines with boosted specifications, and so when Apple invited us to check out their new MacBook Pros we gladly accepted.
