Apple's IPhone Suffers More Signal Problems

Apple's problems, like history, seem to have a way of repeating themself. The iPhone 3G S launch, like the 3G launch of a year before brought more crashed servers and more unhappy customers. And just this last week Mac Pro users began to experience display problems with their new computers, echoing problems that have been reported for a couple years in various models. Now iPhone users are reporting reception and signal problems that echo the iPhone 3G's problems last year that were eventually traced to/blamed on faulty chipset firmware.

Despite having a working exploit for Apple's newly released iPhone 3GS, the iPhone Dev Team have decided to delay the release of an updated jailbreak/unlock tool for a simple reason - the exploit they have which allows for jailbreak resides in iBoot and depends on users having access to their ECID (a unique identifier in all iPhones).

Taken at face value, the specifications tied to Apple's most recent MacBook Air updates imply the latest pair of ultra-slim notebooks should handily outperform their predecessors, but a new report claims this notion only holds true for the slower of the two models.

Introduced earlier this month at Apple's annual developers conference, the new MacBook Airs come in two models: an entry-level $1,499 model with a 1.86GHz processor and 120GB hard drive, and a high-end version for $1,799 that sports a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 128GB solid-state flash drive.

Apple, which recently shaved down the cost of its popular Mac notebook lines, remains on track to pass on similar treatment to its all-in-one desktop line by this fall.

Back in April, AppleInsider reported that the Mac maker, determined to grow its share of the personal computer market during the worst economic backdrop in its corporate history, was gearing up to introduce more affordable versions of both its MacBook and iMac computers.

Why I'm Not Upgrading to an IPhone 3GS

I love my iPhone 3G and I'm sure the 3GS is a nice step up, but I'm sticking with what I have for now. And AT&T's upgrade pricing is only part of the reason why. At the end of the day, it's just not that compelling an upgrade for me to run out and get one.

He may be the Security Minister, but Lord West of Spithead does not seem to feel completely safe in his home neighbourhood in east London.

Lord West admitted he preferred not to carry a state-of-the-art iPhone or Blackberry because of the fear of crime – either from street robbers or computer hackers.

He told journalists that one reason he carried a "stone age" mobile, rather than a sophisticated multi-media device, was the risk of losing sensitive or confidential information.

GeoHot Discovers Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS?

Geohot is back at it again and it looks like he has already found a method to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS!

Details of the exploit are still being gathered; however, it looks like GeoHot was able to insert a custom command to iBoot meaning sigchecks have been bypassed (thanks mav). This should be a start for the iPhone 3GS (N88AP) jailbreak which has been dubbed purplera1n.

Owners of iPod Touch handheld computers will have to pay for the critical updates Apple issued last week to correct 46 holes in its software.

Through iTunes, Apple is charging $9.95 to download the critical patches for the iPod Touch, while iPhone users can download the patches for free.

The software is part of the v3.0 operating system, which includes extra functions for both iPhone and iPod Touch users to support. Expert have slammed Apple's decision to charge for the patch.
