Apple's apparently taken a stand against 'hacked' iPhones. Czech-based company PoweryBase, makers of the NotifyMe application, have just found what looks like evidence of Apple trying to stymie hackers. They noticed that users of hacked iPhones, who make up 5% of their app customers, also made up 80% of their customer support requests. NotifyMe is a push-based application that allows the iPhone to warn users of personal tasks or events.

How can you tell that the App Store's first anniversary is a big deal? Even Apple -- which normally treats milestones with the same stony silence divorced couples regard their erstwhile wedding anniversaries -- has acknowledged the event.

China getting the iPhone sooner than expected

The iPhone is manufactured, assembled and is shipped from China. You all know that right? Now, isn’t it funny that the iPhone is not officially available in that country?

Hmm, I’d say it’s pathetic and shocking. China is simply out of the iPhone map because of the cantankerous negotiations between the prospective carriers and Apple and also because of Government regulations. This time around, we are hearing rumors again which we’re already tired of hearing, ‘the iPhone would be launched there very soon.’

Like many teenagers, Ari Weinstein spends his summers riding his bike and swimming. This year, the 15-year-old had another item on his to-do list: Foil Apple Inc.'s brightest engineers and annoy chief executive Steve Jobs. Ari is part of a loose-knit group of hackers that has made it a mission to "jailbreak" Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. The term refers to installing unapproved software that lets people download a range of programs, including those not sanctioned by Apple.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating Apple's handling of CEO Steve Jobs's health problems, according to a Bloomberg News report -- with the SEC wanting to know how his condition went from "relatively simple" to "more complex than thought" in a week's time.

The investigation hinges on what Apple's board knew on January 5, when Jobs announced he had a "hormone imbalance," and nine days later, on January 14, when he declared the problem to be "more complex" and that he was taking six months off work.

Should I unlock my iPhone?

There are benefits in store for those who unlock their iPhones, but there are also some potential problems. Are the benefits worth the risks? Read on to help make up your mind.

First, what is an unlocked iPhone? So far, the iPhone has been sold only on the AT&T network. The phone is sold with a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) lock in place. Theoretically, this means that the iPhone can only be used on the AT&T cellular network. Hackers, however, have found ways around this restriction and users are now able to “unlock” their phones, or to remove the SIM lock.

In a note to clients on Tuesday, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster noted that the online Apple Store is, for the moment, reflecting lead times of seven to 10 business days for the faster, 2.53GHz 13-inch Macbook Pro model.

Apple may be planning to add a camera to its iPods. Several Web sites have reported that the iPod touch and iPod nano may get the additions.

Currently, only all three models of Apple's iPhones have a still camera. The iPhone 3GS also allows video recording and editing and makes it easy to upload videos to YouTube, but it doesn't have a flash module for low-light situations.
