Palm CEO, former Apple exec says he's never used an iPhone

In an interview at CES this week, Palm chief executive and former iPod chief Jon Rubinstein said his company doesn't pay much attention to Apple, and noted he has never even used an iPhone.

Rubinstein sat down with BoomTown's Kara Swisher to talk about his company's new lineup of webOS-based handsets due out this year. In the course of the conversation, Apple and its market-leading iPhone unsurprisingly came up.

Apple claims three billion downloads from Apps Store

Apple has said that three billion applications have now been downloaded from its App Store, making it the most popular source for code.

Since its launch eighteen months ago over 100,000 applications have been made available on the App Store, around a fifth of which are games. Apple users in 77 countries can download from the store.

Current internet scuttlebutt has the next iPhone pegged for upgrading its current 3.2-megapixel camera to a 5-megapixel camera, courtesy of Omnivision. That will make the iPhone competitive with other camera phones, at least on the vastly overblown quality criterion of the megapixel scale.

Apple is widely expected to unveil its new iSlate tablet computer near the end of this month. According to an unconfirmed report, this will run iPhone OS 4.0, which will also power future smartphones and handhelds from this company.

This upcoming tablet computer will require some significant changes to the iPhone OS. Most notable of these is support for at least one more screen resolution.

Apple to Ship Tablet Device in March

Looking to build on the momentum of its iPhone and iPod, Apple Inc. will unveil a new multimedia tablet device later this month, but isn't planning to ship the product until March, say people briefed by the company.

While the device's ship date hasn't been finalized and could still change, people briefed on the matter said the new product will come with a 10 to 11-inch touch screen—which would make it closer in size to Apple's line of MacBook laptops than its smart phone.

Apple Resolves Chinese iPhone Trademark Dispute

Apple has acquired the “i-phone” trademark from a company in China, apparently clearing the way for the Cupertino, Calif. company to register its iPhone as a cell phone. Hanwang Technology said it had agreed to transfer the trademark to Apple, but refused to provide details, reports said Monday.

When Apple applied to trademark the iPhone in China in 2002, it did so only under “hardware and software” because Hanwang trademarked its own “i-phone” handset under the phone category. The company, also known as Hanvon, eventually discontinued the phone.

Apple refuses to return repaired iPhone to owner

Apple will not return a stolen iPhone to to the original owner after the thief took the phone in to get serviced due to the victim's failure to file a police report.

After getting her iPhone stolen, one reader relayed to Consumerist the tale of her failed attempts to try to get it back from AT&T and Apple. The crime happened on the subway in New York city, after which the victim promptly called the police who searched the area to no avail.
