Apple has applied for a patent on a method to differentiate between authorized and unauthorized users of a particular iOS device. Once an unauthorized user is detected, the device can then automatically disable certain features or send notifications to Twitter or other services.

Apple manager denies kickback claims

An Apple manager has entered a not guilty plea in a supplier kickback case.

Global supply manager Paul Shin Devine pleaded not guilty to 23 criminal counts, including wire fraud and money laundering, stemming from an apparent kickback scheme with the company's hardware suppliers.

Apple Discussions Temporarily Pulled Following Hack

Apple Discussions has been the target of a malicious attack over the past weekend, with administrators in Cupertino pulling the forum on Saturday to isolate and resolve the problem.

Reportedly, users trying to log into Apple Discussions would be able to read through all the available threads, which showed the message "for fun, by tojen," at the top of the page.

Despite Apple's best efforts to stop the easy jailbreaking process, version 4.0.2 has already been defeated. The victor is the free iPhone and iPod Touch tool, redsn0w, which claims to work with Apple's latest iOS update, according to new RedmondPie report.

The latest version of iOS 4.0.2, was released just this week as a fix to the widely reported PDF exploit. The exploit in question allowed alternative jailbreaking tool JailbreakMe easy access to the iPhone, offering up a simple way to quickly jailbreak a device.

Apple’s recently updated iOS to 4.0.2 to address the vulnerability to malicious PDFs. (The patch also prevented devices from using the ridiculously easy hack offered by JailbreakMe.com.) So all’s good now, with Apple devices being safe from bad hackers out to do harm, right?

Um, no… at least not if you’re still using an original iPhone or iPod Touch. If you are, then you know that you get no joy from iOS 4 — therefore the software update for it won’t apply to your device.

Apple Japan offers to replace overheating iPod nano

Apple's Japanese unit has offered to replace its first-generation iPod nano music player in the event of it overheating after reports of fires led to criticism from the government in Tokyo.

Apple confirmed "very rare cases of overheating" in the battery of the iPod nano sold between September 2005 and December 2006, which distorted the shape of the device or made it unusable, the company said on its Japanese website.

It offered to replace affected units, adding that concerned customers using the first-generation iPod nano can now get the battery replaced, it said.

iOS 4.0.2 release fixes PDF exploit

Apple on Wednesday patched a PDF exploit found in its mobile devices with iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and iPod touch, and iOS 3.2.2 for the iPad.

The updates address a security hole used by hackers to "jailbreak" the iPhone, iPod touch. The PDF exploit could also be used by hackers to gain remote control over an iOS device.

According to the Japanese media Jobs' Mob its going to improve website warnings over its first-generation iPod Nano music player after incidents of it overheating and catching fire.
