iOS 4.0 on android powered HTC myTouch 3G ? Yes, you heard it correct. Surprisingly, hackers have managed to break into T-Mobile myTouch 3G to port iOS 4.0 on it. Great piece of reverse engineering. Isn’t? Everything on HTC myTouch 3G works including folders, quick-app switching, spotlight, and all the keyboards.

Apple's servers are probably still steaming hot from the rush to download iOS4.1 but hackers have already found a bootrom-based exploit which will could allow them to tinker with any device that uses the mobile operating system.

The recent update slammed the door on a number of methods including the web-based JailbreakMe, which allowed a number of iDevices to run unapproved software, but coders from both the infamous iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team are already reporting successful exploits aimed at the gadgets' bootroms.

Apple on Thursday loosened rules for applications built for its iPhones, iPods, and iPads in a move that promises to make it easier for friends and rivals to get programs on the popular gadgets.

The California company also pulled back the curtain on its long private review guidelines that third-party applications must meet to get into Apple's online App Store.

Apple patches DLL hijacking bug in Safari

Apple yesterday patched three vulnerabilities in Safari, including one in the Windows version that quashed a bug Microsoft said individual developers had to fix themselves.

Apple and Mozilla are the only major browser makers who have patched what most researchers have called "DLL load hijacking." In the updates to Safari 5.0.2 and Safari 4.1.2, Apple addressed a problem shared by scores of Windows applications that can be exploited by duping users into downloading innocent files.

Charles Miller has made his reputation hacking Macs. His most recent exploit earned him $10,000 by exposing soft spots in Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Safari in March. It was the third year in a row he hacked into a MacBook at CanSecWest Pwn2Own hacker contest.

Mac Directory sat down with Miller, whose Wikipedia entry describes him as a “ security researcher,” to to talk about Apples weaknesses, his rep and whether Apple devices are still safer than PCs.

iOS 4.1 jailbroken already, days before official release

The iPhone Dev Team have announced that they have jailbroken the as yet unreleased iOS 4.1 update, which is set to anger Jobs, who considers jailbreaking a mortal sin.

There's still a few days to go before the new iOS update is rolled out on the 8th of September, but the iPhone Dev Team has already gotten its hands on it and freed it from its walled garden, with plans to release the jailbreak to the public on launch day.

As you no doubt know by now, Steve Jobs did his one-more-thing thing and just introduced a $99, palm-sized Apple TV.

On the surface, the new Apple TV is disappointingly mundane. It seemed almost completely likely that the new Apple TV (what everyone was convinced would be called iTV) would be iOS-based and essentially give you a big-screen iPad with a 10-foot interface.
