Apple this afternoon released yet another beta version of its iOS 5 software to developers, the seventh time it's done so since offering a test version of the software in June.

Remember that cool MacBook Pro with built-in 3G that one lucky surfer picked up on Craigslist? It got a lot of attention a couple weeks ago when it was listed on eBay, with bids in excess of $70,000. Unfortunately for its owner, Apple had the listing removed, and now it wants the machine back.

If you pay even a small bit of attention to the iPhone jailbreaking scene, you’ve probably heard by now: one of its golden boys is heading for greener pastures. Nicholas Allegra — perhaps known better as comex (the brain behind the one-click, web-based jailbreaking tool, JailbreakMe) — is hangin’ up his hacker hat and heading for Cupertino, having been offered an internship at Apple.

There are lots of crazy rumors flying around about the new iPhone announcement coming later on this year (or as soon as next month), but this is one of the more credible. The picture above comes from a site called UbreakIfix through our friends at Engadget, and purports to show a prototype for the iPhone called the N94.

A report from DigiTimes today dismisses rumors that Apple’s iPhone 5 will look identical to the iPhone 4, claiming it will instead have an iPod touch-like rear metal chassis with a 3.5 to 3.7-inch display.

That also quashes those rumors that claim the fifth-generation iPhone will have a large 4-inch display, with sources claiming the iPhone 5 will have ” a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger.”

Apple, which recently filed a patent application for a technology to keep screens on mobile devices free of fingerprints, is upping the ante by filing for a new application that could keep you fingers from even touching the screen in the first place.

Nasdaq-100 Index futures declined after Steve Jobs resigned as chief executive officer of Apple, the world’s second-largest company by market value.

Futures on the index, which gets 66 per cent of its value from computer-related companies such as Apple, fell 0.9 per cent to 2,119.25 in morning trade in Tokyo.

A bug in the module for authenticating (Open)LDAP under Mac OS X 10.7.x Lion can result in any password being accepted during log-in – all that's required is a valid user name. The problem occurs when logging in both via a graphical interface on a client and over the web via SSH on a server.

Most of the speculation surrounding Apple at the moment is when the iPhone 5 will be released or the next iPad. But there has also been reports surfacing about the company working on having LTE after images emerged of equipment that had been installed in stores. This is continuing with claims that Apple are looking to have LTE in many devices including the iPad 3.

A Twitter user going by the name of iH8sn0w is claiming that iOS 5 Beta 6 will expire on September 29, 2011 just one second after 8:00 PM Eastern time. Is this a clue that offers some insight into the real release date of iOS 5?
