The seemingly unquenchable thirst for unsubstantiated news concerning Apple products rasps on today with two separate reports predicting Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pros would soon be getting high-definition Retina displays. Mac-centric blog AppleInsider received a note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo saying that Apple would have a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display on store shelves in time for the holiday shopping season. At this week’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple unveiled Retina displays for the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

After facing widespread criticism earlier this year for releasing its Java update weeks after Oracle patched the same vulnerabilities, Apple has released the platform's most recent update to correspond with Oracle's release.

On Tuesday, Oracle, the maker of Java, plugged 14 holes in Java SE, while Apple, which maintains its own version of the technology (now up to 1.6.0_33) in Mac OS X, also closed 11 of the same vulnerabilities. It is unclear if Apple will need to fix the remaining three flaws.

Google and Apple have upped their game in 2012, and a new crop of smartphones running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Apple's new iOS 6 will offer consumers a tough choice when it comes to choosing a new phone.

Apple isn't expected to launch the next iPhone until the fall. But the company gave a preview of what's to come with the unveiling of iOS 6 mobile software this week at its WWDC conference in San Francisco. From what I can tell, the new iPhone will give the current crop of Android 4.0 devices a run for their money.

A set of photos that may depict Apple's 2012 iPhone has surfaced, though the authenticity of the images remains unverified.

If accurate, the photos, which were published by Chinese site iPhone中文网 (Google Translation, via MacOtakara), would appear to corroborate separate rumors that have suggested the next iPhone will have a smaller dock, larger speakers and a metal back.

After introducing the next generation 15.4-inch MacBook Pro, complete with Retina Display and an all-new thin design, Apple took down the 17-inch version of its laptop from its online store, effectively killing off the large desktop replacement.

Although no official announcement was made during Apple's WWDC keynote on Monday, the disappearance of the 17-inch MacBook Pro from the company's online store can be taken as confirmation that the large-screened notebook has reached end-of-life.

When it launches later this year, iOS 6 will feature an all-new Maps application built from the ground up by Apple, featuring turn-by-turn navigation and anonymous, real-time, crowd-sourced traffic data.

The new iOS 6 Maps have integrated Yelp for user reviews. The new traffic service allows users to provide incident reports for more accurate travel data.

Calling it "the most beautiful computer we have ever made," Apple on Monday announced what it has dubbed the "next-generation MacBook Pro," an all-new ultra-thin professional laptop with a high-resolution Retina display.

The new MacBook Pro is as thin as the MacBook Air, at just 0.71 inches thick, Apple said. And it's the lightest Pro ever, weighing under 4 and a half pounds.

New MacBook Pro Leaked Photos Indicate Same External Design

The new MacBook Pro to be announced at WWDC 2012 tomorrow may not sport a redesigned Air-like enclosure. According to these photos—posted to Chinese forum WeiPhone—they will have the same industrial design of the old models, down to the same screw placement.

Chinese forum WeiPhone usually has solid information and these photos seem real. They show different components in a similarly shaped motherboard that has the exact same holes as the current one has. This may indicate that the exterior aluminum unibody design would remain exactly the same.
