According to a member of the hacking collective, there are plans to set up a similar service to Wikileaks by the end of the year.

A Wikileaks competitor is in the works, and due to be launched on December 21 this year, according to The Hacker News. A representative of the loose hacktivist group -- who said he was representing the collective as a whole -- spoke about the project in an emailed interview with the Voice of Russia.

Members of hacking group Anonymous retrieved the personal email details of private and serving officers from a website, and emailed them directly.

In a message addressed to “members of our U.K. police and armed forces”, they told officers and servicemen to “stand with us” in an upcoming campaign.

The security breach, which happened in a third-party web forum rather than official police computers, is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime unit. A spokesman insisted no Met Police systems had been compromised and confirmed inquiries were ongoing.

What have you done for - or to - me lately? Anonymous is a long-time supporter of whistleblower site WikiLeaks, but a recent decision by the site to deploy a paywall on its website that blocks access to the site’s cache of leaked documents unless users donate or promote WikiLeaks via social media has drawn Anonymous' enmity.

On Thursday night, the loosely-knit hacker group, or rather, some of its membership, issued a post to the AnonPaste website on Thursday night in which they called the new campaign “filthy and rotten.”

A number of six websites managed by the Spanish government have been targeted, and this time the hackers didn’t settle for distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks. Instead, they leaked the sites’ databases.

Brown previously described himself as an Anonymous spokesperson, but announced his departure from the group last year. He is now being held in federal detention in Dallas on charges of threatening a federal agent, according to his attorney’s Twitter account.

What's worse for a website hosting company: getting taken down by hackers, or failing to properly configure your network, sparking downtime and lost revenue for customers?

The CEO of website hosting service Go Daddy has said that the company's six-hour outage Monday had nothing to do with a hacktivist, despite a hacker having claimed credit for launching a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) that scuttled the Go Daddy network.

Hacktivist group Anonymous released thousands of sensitive Cambodian government documents in retaliation after the co-founder of The Pirate Bay was arrested.

Swedish Gottfrid Svartholm Warg was arrested after being deported from Cambodia over alleged copyright violations. Under an international warrant, The Pirate Bay (TPB) co-founder was extradited back to Sweden after being seized in Phnom Penh on Sep. 2, in order to begin a one-year prison sentence. The case was treated as an immigration violation as Cambodia has no extradition treaty with Sweden.
