Analysis claims the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has the best smartphone display yet

Research firm DisplayMate, which regularly offers its opinions on the quality of smartphone and tablet displays, has conducted its usual, and extensive, series of tests on the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 5. The final result of those tests has the firm declaring that the display on Samsung's latest phone is the best one made for any smartphone yet.

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced that it has begun mass producing the industry’s first 256-gigabit (Gb), three-dimensional (3D) Vertical NAND (V-NAND) flash memory based on 48 layers of 3-bit multi-level-cell (MLC) arrays for use in solid state drives (SSDs).

Google, Samsung to issue monthly Android security fixes

Google Inc and Samsung Electronics Co will release monthly security fixes for Android phones, a growing target for hackers, after the disclosure of a bug designed to attack the world's most popular mobile operating system.

The change came after security researcher Joshua Drake unveiled what he called Stagefright, hacking software that allows attackers to send a special multimedia message to an Android phone and access sensitive content even if the message is unopened.

Samsung Electronics Co. will upgrade security software on its smartphones, including the Galaxy S6, to plug a vulnerability to hackers.

More than 600 million Samsung devices are at risk of being spied on because of flaws in how the SwiftKey application is updated, according to consultant NowSecure. Samsung will make upgrades of its Knox security software in a few days to eliminate the risks, the company said in an e-mail on Thursday.

BlackBerry teams up with Samsung and IBM on the SecuTablet

BlackBerry is returning to the tablet market -- this time with the help of Samsung Electronics, IBM and Secusmart, the German encryption specialist BlackBerry bought last year.

This is not the PlayBook 2 that BlackBerry was rumored to be working on last year, but the SecuTablet, developed by Secusmart and IBM for a German government department.

Samsung loses 'Next Big Thing' marketing chief

Todd Pendleton, the executive behind Samsung's successful "Next Big Thing" campaign, is looking for his next big thing -- but it won't be at Samsung.

Pendleton, who has served as chief marketing officer for Samsung's US mobile business for nearly four years, notified his colleagues this week that he's leaving in April, people familiar with the matter told CNET. Some of his direct reports have also left Samsung or have been transferred to other departments, the people said. Samsung and Pendleton didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

T-Mobile outs retail value of Samsung Galaxy S6

T-Mobile is running a contest in the U.S. through which customers can get their hands on the upcoming Galaxy S6 for free. And as is the case for all such giveaways in the country, the carrier has listed the retail value of the handset, which is at $699. As there is no mention of a storage variant, it is possible the model listed is the 32GB variant.
