Is Crypto Solely for Criminals?

Interesting outlook from an article on IDG detailing the use of encryption, and the negative campaigns against it. "When the Feds -- be they CIA, FBI, NSA, or Treasury Department -- discuss crypto, they make it sound as if anyone using it must be a child pornographer, drug smuggler, or terrorist." I wonder if the government feels the same about corporations encrypting their business plans in order to avoid having them stolen. Here's the article.

"A professor at Harvard claims to have come up with the math for an unbreakable encryption code. Based on mathematics that the professor says are "quite complicated", the new code could provide the best known encryption to date.

Daniel Bleichenbacher at Bell Labs the research and development wing of Lucent Technologies, has discovered a flaw in the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) that could affect the integrity of secure transactions on the Internet and adversely impact VPNs (virtual private networks), online shopping, and online financial transactions.
