INFOSEC : Theoretical vs Practical Security

posted onJune 28, 2000

Over the last year or so I have been wondering just how effective simple
encryption can be in regards to law enforcement. We know that the National
Security Agency has a top notch collection of scientists and mathematicians,
as well as having a ridiculous amount of computing power. What I often
wonder is just how much access the rest of the Intelligence Community
has to that resource.

Most
of this information is from various notes that I have taken over the years
to help me remember some of this shit. Most of it is pretty messy cause
I havent had time to compile a real version. I never thought it would
be useful to anyone else but me. But some of my friends at work wanted
copies and they liked so if you do please send me feedback. If anything
is wrong please tell me so I can make the applicable changes. Anyway. The

Setting up a DHCP Server

Hey kids! I'm back once again this time around to show you how you can
set up your own DHCP server at home! Well perhaps setting up a DHCP server
at home would be a total waste of time, so I guess this information would
be more well suited to those overworked *cough* system admins that need
more free time to surf the net downloading patches *cough* for their buggy
systems. (Then again, they'd probrably prefer to use that bandwidth downloading

hands on Mandrake Linux 7.0 and managed to play around with it a little.
For those of you that have never heard of Mandrake Linux I have just one

We're back once again! A lot has happened in the month since the last
issue was out. We've added a tag line to our site, a chat section, re-did
the interface to our site, and worked on a few other tweaks. As you might
already know, we've got a new member to the HITB team and we would like
to take this opportunity to welcome him on board once again.

The MPAA Letter - 2600.org.au

Sure
enough the MPAA found out we have the DeCSS software (among other things)
on the 2600 Australia site, so they wrote me a nice letter. I've pasted
it below so you can read it and laugh at it. I say laugh at it solely
because 2600 Australia is obviously Australian and any links from this
site to the material on a site hosted in Australia are clearly beyond
their legal jurisdiction.
