Scammers have launched a campaign preying on users of OpenID in an attempt to steal log-in credentials, according to Barracuda Labs.

Barracuda security researchers Dave Michmerhuizen and Luis Chapetti say they are seeing specially built log-in pages that appear similar to pages used as part of the OpenID authentication process. When users type in their credentials, the data is collected by a rogue website, which sends back a message that the credentials have been validated.

Patti Hart — the Yahoo director in charge of the search that resulted in the hiring of Scott Thompson as its CEO, making her directly responsible for a clearly botched vetting of his academic record — will not stand for reelection to the board at the next annual meeting, according to sources close to the situation.

Facebook has executed a masterful response to Yahoo’s patent trolling that protects it legally but still makes it look like the victim. Facebook will maintain the moral high ground, and likely bypass a costly settlement. But there’s none of Facebook’s blood in the water, nothing for the sharks to circle. It could have gone much worse.

Yammer CEO David Sacks is on the lookout for Yahoo engineers and is even prepared to pay a $25,000 signing bonus for anyone who jumps ship.

Yammer, based in San Francisco, has a product which it says "brings the power of social networking inside the enterprise in a private and secure environment". There is no indication of why exactly Yammer is seeking specifically Yahoo! engineers, with Mr. Sacks merely saying: "I'm pleased to announce a $25,000 signing bonus for any Yahoo employee who joins Yammer in the next 60 days."

As expected, Yahoo today filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Facebook. The online giant is claiming that the social networking site infringes upon 10 of it's patents. Yahoo is hoping to secure some portion of Facebook's revenue moving forward.

“Yahoo! Has invested substantial resources in research and development through the years, which has resulted in numerous patented inventions of technology that other companies have licensed” says a Yahoo spokesperson.

Newly appointed Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson is said to be preparing a major restructuring plan that includes a vast number of layoffs. Multiple sources have told All Things D that thousands of employees at the Internet giant could be looking for a new job as early as the end of this month.

The layoffs are believed to be targeting multiple facets of the company including marketing and public relations, research, marginal business and Yahoo’s large products organization; all are divisions that the company has fallen behind on in recent times.
