London switch over to digital TV may leave 1 million TVs blank

The London region's impending switch to all-digital TV will leave more than one million household sets blank, according to the body leading the process.

Digital UK said over one in ten households still has a television that receives analogue signal, despite the fact that the switchover is due to get underway next Wednesday (April 4th 2012).

Poor online security costs the UK economy more than 200 million a year

A study conducted by financial services firm Experian has found that poor online security has cost the UK economy more than £200 million a year.

The research estimates that as much as £1.02 billion worth of transactions will abandon Russia, either temporarily or permanently, Because consumers got tired of working their way through lengthy and complex verification processes.

UK Home Secretary approves extradition of TVShack.net operator

The UK Home Secretary Theresa May has approved the extradition of a 23-year-old computer studies student to the United States to face charges of breaking copyright law.

Despite being a teenager when running TVShack.net, Richard O'Dwyer who has never been to the US before or even used servers located in the US, is being extradited merely because authorities in the States claim that the content featured on his site was made in the US.

European regulator finds blocking of P2P and VoIP is common amongst ISPs

The body of European regulators of electronic communications, which is composed of the heads from 27 national regulators has published its preliminary findings of Internet traffic management practices by broadband ISPs and mobile operators in Europe. The practices were found to “vary widely” between countries and providers with two exceptions, the blocking of Skype and BitTorrent traffic is common.

19-Year-Old British Student Wins Cyber Security Competition

A 19-year-old U.K. student has been named the “Cyber Security Champion” after winning a competition showcasing Internet security intelligence.

Jonathan Millican won the award after a six-month-long challenge designed to attract talented people to the cyberdefense industry.

Judges at the competition said Millican had demonstrated knowledge “years beyond his time” of the subject. He won the competition after taking part in a final series of challenges hosted by HP Labs, which pitted six five-person teams against each other on Saturday.
