Canonical will win even if Ubuntu Edge doesn't make its $32 million

Canonical , Ubuntu's parent company, made a bet. It wagered that there were enough visionaries out there to crowd-source 32-million dollars for the first Linux-powered combination smartphone/PC, the Ubuntu Edge. It seems that the company will lose that wager, but in the long-run, I think Canonical will rise from the gadget gaming table a winner.

Ubuntu forums hacked; 1.82M logins, email addresses stolen

Ubuntu Forums suffered a massive data breach, the company behind the Linux open-source based operating system said on Saturday.

In an announcement posted on its main forum page, Canonical confirmed there had been a security breach and that the team is working to restore normal operations.

Ubuntu Kylin 13.04 Beta 2 was also released today, April 5, along with all the others Linux distributions that are part of the Ubuntu family.

Ubuntu Kylin is a new flavor of Ubuntu Linux, and Raring Ringtail (version 13.04) will be its first ever stable release. Today’s final testing version fixes last minute bugs, such as an updated PM2.5 API in the China Weather Indicator, and saving note issue with the Chinese Calendar.

Richard Stallman says Ubuntu Linux is 'spyware'

Richard Stallman has asked a South American free software association not to promote Ubuntu Linux at its events because it "spies on its users" by collecting its users' desktop search activity and selling the data to Amazon.

Canonical released Ubuntu 12.10 last October with Amazon search integrated into its Dash desktop search function.

Ubuntu Touch Preview coming to Nexus tablets this week

After desktops and phones, Ubuntu is now bringing its Linux distribution to tablets. Coming Thursday, preview images for Google's Nexus tablets will be released, so we can all get a good long look at what Canonical is cooking up. They've published a YouTube video which details all that Ubuntu has to offer for tablets, and to be honest, it's looking quite good.
