Edward Snowden offered the world details of US mass surveillance programs. Now, he's offering Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey his thoughts on the social network.

In a video chat on Tuesday, Snowden said he uses Twitter in a "crude" way, in part to keep other tweeters safe. He searches for information he's interested in but doesn't follow other accounts, except for @NSAgov. The reason: following other users might prompt US authorities to take an interest in them.

AN APPLICATION called TextSecure, which was available on iOS and apparently had some sort of appeal for Edward Snowden, has made its way onto Android at a time when Google is about to be told that such stuff is a no-no under a reignited Snoopers' Charter.

This is more than a name change, however. The firm behind it, Open Whisper Systems, said in a blog post that it has combined the existing TextSecure and RedPhone systems into one thing called Signal. TextSecure users should enjoy an easy transition through a software update.

General Assembly here, the advocacy group Avaaz enlisted Edward Snowden, journalist Glenn Greenwald and his partner David Miranda to bring attention to the launch of a new campaign seeking to strengthen privacy and protections for whistle-blowers with a new proposed treaty.

The Sunday Times reports that Russia and China de-encrypted files stolen by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, forcing the UK intelligence service MI6 to pull officers out of live operations in hostile countries.

"Western intelligence agencies say they have been forced into the rescue operations after Moscow gained access to more than [1 million] classified files," The London paper, citing senior UK officials, reports.

Edward Snowden: Don't censor your pics

People shouldn't hold back on sending racy photos of themselves online for fear the images might be scooped up by government spies, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden has said.

Snowden appeared for a sit-down interview Sunday night on HBO's "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver." The host traveled to Russia to do the interview in person.

To make the issue hit home for his TV audience, Oliver asked Snowden which government programs might allow spies to access people's "d**k pics." Many of the programs would, Snowden said, but that shouldn't cause people to hold back.
