Apple has just updated its Safari browser.
There's still no sign of the regularity and frequency in update process that works so well for companies like Microsoft and Adobe, where you know you'll get an update (or at least be told you aren't getting one) every month.
Apple on Tuesday rolled out an update to its Safari Web Browser for Mac, with new features like enhanced push notification settings coming to users of OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Perhaps most significant among Safari version 7.0.3's new features is greater control over push notifications, which in the past required per-website management.
Adobe has worked with Apple to sandbox Flash Player under Safari in Mac OS X, restricting the ability of attackers to exploit any vulnerabilities they might find in the browser plug-in.
"With this week's release of Safari in OS X Mavericks, Flash Player will now be protected by an OS X App Sandbox," Peleus Uhley, platform security strategist at Adobe, said Wednesday in a blog post. A sandbox is a mechanism that enforces certain restrictions on how an application interacts with the underlying operating system.
Apple has posted a security update for the Windows and OS X versions of its Safari web browser.
The company said that the Safari 5.1.4 update would address a number of vulnerabilities in the browser itself and its WebKit engine. Among the fixes in the update is a patch which addresses dozens of memory corruption vulnerabilities in WebKit which, if exploited, could allow an attacker to remotely execute code on a targeted system.
