"XIMIAN, ONE OF the brighter lights among open-source developers, on Monday rolled out a personal and workgroup information management tool that works across both Linux- and Unix- based platforms as well as with Microsoft and Lotus mail environments.

Version 1.0 of Evolution is designed to weave together e-mail, calendar, and contact management functions in concert with a handful of collaboration and information management functions, company officials said."

Although it had made its way out of the underground, a lack of vendor support, scarce in-house skills, fainthearted management and weak administrative toolsets prevented Linux from taking that all-important leap from simple Web server to enterprise-application server, or even onto the desktop itself.

Linux 2.4.15/2.5.0 Released

Yup! Version 2.4.15 of the Linux kernel has been released which also marks the beta release of 2.5.0. This release includes two major features: ext3 and inter-mezzo. Ext3 is the second journaled filesystem included in the kernel. And Inter-mezzo is a Network filesystem that will make a lot of laptop-users a lot more happy.
