Apple's 2018 iPhones will use Intel modems, Qualcomm seemingly confirms

 Qualcomm's CFO, George Davis, just seemingly confirmed a major detail about this year's iPhones during an earnings conference call on Wednesday.

The iPhones coming out this fall are not going to use Qualcomm modems — leaving only one real company that could provide the chip design: Intel.

China fines Qualcomm $975 million for monopolistic business practices

China has fined Qualcomm about US$975 million for engaging in monopolistic business practices, and the chipmaker has agreed to modify some of its business practices in the country as part of the settlement.

Qualcomm said it is disappointed by the results of the investigation, but will not contest the findings and will pay the fine.

Nvidia launches patent suit against Qualcomm, Samsung

In a fresh patent suit for the tech world, Nvidia is launching a legal battle against Qualcomm and Samsung. The processor maker filed formal complaints over seven patents with the International Trade Commission as well as at the U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Nvidia is arguing that both Qualcomm and Samsung have been infringing upon its GPU patents covering programmable shading, unified shaders and multithreaded parallel processing technologies.

Qualcomm's little known Quick Charge is in most Snapdragon devices

Chip designer Qualcomm talked up its Quick Charge 1.0 today, a "little known" technology that helps devices charge up to 40 percent faster than those without it.

For reasons unknown, Qualcomm left it until now to promote the technology, despite having developed and integrated it quite a while ago in Snapdragon powered devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, the HTC 8X, the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Google Nexus 4 built by LG.
