Pinterest worth $3.8 billion after massive funding round

Stick this on your board: Pinterest has closed a $225 million round of funding that now values the company at $3.8 billion, the startup confirmed to CNET. New investor Fidelity led the round with participation from existing investors Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, and Valiant Capital Partners, Pinterest said.

The news, first reported by AllThingsD, comes just eight months after the social-networking site secured $200 million. At the time, it was valued at $2.5 billion.

Pinterest users are taking to Facebook and Twitter to complain about their hacked accounts, in what appears to be yet another round of spammers attacking the pinboard-style photo sharing site.

In fact, many users are noticing that their friends and followers are pushing Pinterest spam to Facebook (showing up on users’ Timelines and thus friends’ Tickers as well as News Feeds) and Twitter, since users often link the social networks together for cross-posting purposes.

Pinterest Locking Accounts In Response To Hacks - May Not Know Cause Of Security Issue

Pinterest has been temporarily locking accounts in response to hacks. It looks like it doesn’t know the cause of the security breaches.

On July 16, Pinterest posted a “Locked Account Survey,” asking affected users to complete a survey to “assist our investigation.” The eleven question survey is broad, covering a wide range of possible issues, from whether the user had experienced other security hacks to how they used Pinterest to what browser they used, suggesting that Pinterest doesn’t know what’s causing its hacks.
