Nokia has suffered a defeat against IPCom after a German court ruled it had infringed IPCom's patents.
IPCom accused Nokia of infringing patents that cover technology for allowing mobile phones to connect to 3G networks. Nokia had failed to get the patents thrown out and a Mannheim court has ruled Nokia infringed IPCom's patents.
Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia confirmed in an interview that they're working on a tablet device which they hope will stand out from the many rivals attempting to challenge Apple's iPad.
"We are working on it", Marko Ahtisaari said in an interview with Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio. Ahtisaari is Nokia's chief designer and is apparently spending a third of his time dedicated to developing the device.
Nokia officially announced the Lumia 610, a budget Windows Phone handset, at Mobile World Congress Sunday. The phone's hardware is pretty bare-bones, but it will lead the charge for the updated, low-end-optimized Windows Phone OS that Microsoft hopes will help it conquer new territory like China.
The Lumia 610 has a 3.7-inch 480×800 screen, only 256MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and an 800MHz processor. The phone also has a 5-megapixel camera and a shiny plastic bezel, and is set to debut in Europe for only €189 ($254) off-contract in the second quarter of this year.
A bunch of hardcore Nokia hackers and developers are currently working on a usable port of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Nokia N9, which uses the now-defunct Meego operating system.
The N9 comes with the Harmattan user interface and a 3.9-inch touchscreen that has no physical button (just what Ice Cream Sandwich needs).
Nokia has been fined by Australian regulators for spamming its customers with text messages, Reuters reports. The company will have to pay AUS$55,000 for sending SMS marketing messages for its products and services alongside "tips" on how customers can best use their phones, but without offering a way to unsubscribe to the messages.
On January 6th reports of Symantec (makers of Norton Anitvirus) being hacked surfaced. The group of hackers behind the attack behind the attack were from India. In a statement issued by a member from the Lords of Dharamraja group (badass name!), the guys said:
