As someone who spends a lot of time with smartphones, I often get asked, "Hey Ron, what Android phone should I buy?" The high-end answer is usually easy: buy a Pixel phone. But not everyone is willing to shell out $650+ for a smartphone, especially the types of casual users that ask for advice. Beyond the flagship smartphones, things get more difficult within the Android ecosystem.

In November 2014, Microsoft said that "there will be Windows 10 upgrades for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices" - a fairly unequivocal statement that leaves no doubt that all of the company's devices released with WP8 onwards would be upgraded. But details now provided by Microsoft on its website suggest that availability of Windows 10 Mobile will be limited to only certain devices - at least at first.

Microsoft has started to push out updates that will re-brand the Nokia apps that are on your Windows Phone. An app, for example, previously called Nokia Cinemagraph, is now called Lumia Cinemagraph.

These updates should not come as a surprise as we fully expect Microsoft to slowly transition over the entire Nokia portfolio into its own branding. From these apps, it looks like they will stick with the Lumia branding for Nokia related products which is likely a smart move considering the strong brand recognition with that name.

A $25 Nokia dumbphone – just what the world needs

Microsoft's Nokia division has revealed its latest mobile phone – but rather than a high-end flagship number designed to take on Apple, it's taking aim squarely at the bottom of the market.

It's no less than a plastic mini-mobe that will sell for no more than €19 ($25) before taxes and subsidies.

Billed in the company's marketing materials as "an ultra-affordable mobile phone with music and video player," the Nokia 130 targets the kind of pre-iPod media consumers that have all but vanished from developed markets with the advent of smartphones.

ADW.Launcher developer Ander Webbs has taken to Google+ to share his surprise after finding out his Android app was available in the Nokia Store -- the app store for Nokia X -- seemingly without his permission and without him ever launching the offering there. At first glance it appears Opera, which operates Nokia Store, has jumped the gun by creating an account and uploading the app on his behalf.
