Dutch government sets up National Cyber Security Centre

The Dutch government has set up a new National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to deal with with the growing problem of online crime. The NCSC, which is a public-private partnership, commenced operations on 1 January 2012. Its ambition is to grow, in a phased manner, into the cooperation platform for cyber security in the Netherlands.

Dutch government struggles with DigiNotar hack

The Dutch government is trying to minimize the effect of the DigiNotar hack on its IT infrastructure but warned it's a time-consuming process: Not all the SSL certificates can be replaced on the fly.

Piet Hein Donner, minister of the interior, said in a press conference on Tuesday that the government will work as quickly as possible to replace all the DigiNotar SSL certificates in use. However, if the certificates are withdrawn immediately it will be damaging, he warned.

Dutch launch Iran IT hacking probe

The Dutch secret service has opened an investigation to determine who falsified 531 Internet security certificates in order to snoop on users in Iran, the Dutch Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

"The secret service has opened an investigation," its spokesman Vincent van Steen told AFP, adding "it is specifically to find out who hacked the certificates."

Dutch govt says own websites not secure

The Dutch government says it cannot guarantee the security of its own websites, days after the private company it uses to authenticate them admitted it was hacked.

An official also said the government was taking over the company's operations. The announcement affects millions of people who use the Netherlands' government's online services and rely on the authenticator, DigiNotar, to confirm they are visiting the correct sites.

The annual DIMVA conference serves as a premier forum for advancing the state of the art in intrusion detection, malware detection, and vulnerability assessment. Each year DIMVA brings together international experts from academia, industry and government to present and discuss novel research in these areas. DIMVA is organized by the special interest group Security - Intrusion Detection and Response (SIDAR) of the German Informatics Society (GI). The conference proceedings will appear in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.
