Outlook for iOS branded a 'security nightmare'

Outlook for iOS and Android was released to rave reviews yesterday, but it now looks like it's on a one-way ticket to Borksville, calling at Securitygeddon and Hackesberg.

The app, based on Acompli, which was purchased by the company last year, has been described as superior to the Gmail and Apple stock apps, but a post from security blogger Rene Winkelmeyer points to a whole bunch of problems that make it an absolute mare.

Eleven new companies have emerged from Microsoft Venture's startup accelerator programs, the software giant announced Jan. 21. The news was overshadowed by the high-profile Windows 10 press event at Microsoft's Redmond, Wash., headquarters. Nonetheless, it represents a major milestone in the company's efforts to engage with the tech startup scene and help nurture up-and-coming IT companies.

China says Microsoft Outlook hacking allegations 'groundless'

Allegations that Chinese authorities hacked into Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) Outlook email service are "groundless slander", the official Xinhua news agency quoted Beijing's cyberspace regulator as saying late on Thursday.

The comments, made by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) spokesman Jiang Jun, were in response to a Monday report by an online censorship watchdog which said that Chinese users of the email service were subject to a hacking attack over the weekend.

Once the next version of Windows is installed Microsoft plans to begin a process of continuous updates that will eliminate the concept of next versions.

There's no question that Microsoft has learned from the pain of getting customers to upgrade from Windows XP and later from Windows 7 to 8. From now on it never wants to be in the position of having to convince people to buy the next version of Windows.
